The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected notorious thug, Auwalu Ali, also known as Auwalu Dan Daba, over his alleged involvement in organized thuggery and violent attacks on residents of the state.
The 26-year-old suspect was arrested on January 31 by operatives attached to the Dorayi Division following what the police described as credible intelligence on his activities.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Kano Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
According to the command, Ali is suspected to have coordinated and led groups involved in attacks and robberies targeting members of the public in parts of Kano.
“In a decisive operation based on credible intelligence, police officers attached to Dorayi Division apprehended a notorious thug, Auwalu Ali, popularly known as ‘Auwalu Dan Daba’, who has been coordinating and organizing thuggery groups to attack and rob innocent citizens,” the statement said.
In a related development, the command said operatives from the Sharada Division responded to a distress call in Sharada Quarters, where a suspected armed robber was lynched by a mob following an attack that left a woman critically injured.
The statement said the injured victim was taken to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where a police officer voluntarily donated blood to help save her life.
“The victim was rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where a police officer selflessly donated blood, thereby saving her life,” the statement said.
Commending the officers, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Bakori, praised their professionalism and selfless service.
“The Commissioner of Police commended the sacrifice of the officers, particularly the blood donation, and expressed gratitude to the good people of Kano State for their continued support and cooperation,” the statement added.
The command also urged residents to stay vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, while cautioning against mob action and jungle justice.
