The Yobe State Police Command has taken two suspects into custody over the kidnapping of a 22-year-old in Tashan Randa village, Fika area of the state.
This was revealed in a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, on Thursday.
The PPRO described the arrest as a major victory in the command’s efforts to maintain security and safety in the state.
Abdulkarim added that on May 6, 2025, armed individuals assaulted the residence of a father, named as Maikudi, kidnapped his daughter, and injured another female in the process.
He said that the kidnap syndicate requested N5m for the release of the victim.
He said operatives of the command took prompt action on the case and initiated an investigation that led to the rescue of the victim and the dismantling of the kidnappers’ den.
“The police received demands for a N5,000,000 ransom, which facilitated the rescue operation.
“Through collaborative efforts with hunters, the police arrested two suspects linked to the incident, Waiti Bello, 30, and Idrissa Adamu, 35.
“Other members of the syndicate are currently on the run, and efforts are intensified to apprehend them soon”, Abdulkarim said.
A motorbike and a Dane rifle were found in their hiding place, according to the statement.
The detained suspects have admitted to the crime and are helping the security personnel with their investigation, it was added.
The state Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, also reiterated the command’s commitment to eradicating crimes from the state and called for community collaboration in the fight against insecurity.
He said, “The police command’s swift response and collaborative efforts with hunters have yielded positive results, and the command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of the state’s residents.”
