The reorganization of the Ekpoma Division has been ordered by Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika as part of the ongoing security assessment and strategic repositioning in Ekpoma in Esan West, Edo.
Eno Ikoedem, the command’s public relations officer, made this announcement in a statement on Tuesday.
The CP authorized CSP Tomofe Nwabueze’s posting to take over as the new DPO with immediate effect.
The statement read, “The Edo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that as part of ongoing security assessment and strategic repositioning in Ekpoma, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, Monday Agbonika, has ordered the reorganization of the Ekpoma Division.
“The CP has also approved the posting of CSP Tomofe Nwabueze to assume office as the new DPO with immediate effect.”
Residents of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area mounted a protest on Saturday in response to growing insecurity, which included kidnappings and the Friday night murder of a young person. This marked the start of the problem.
The protesters blocked a major highway to express their grievances, but the demonstration was later hijacked by youths who attacked traders at the livestock market.
Reports states that a nonviolent demonstration against insecurity on Saturday descended into violence, plunging Ekpoma into a crisis.
A viral video showed hoodlums taking over the demonstration and attacking livestock market vendors, killing goats and beating their cows.
Additionally, they stormed and damaged Zaiki Anthony Abumere II’s palace in Ekpoma, a conduct that Governor Okpebholo denounced.
Ikoedem added that a soldier had shot one person and that the military authorities had been notified of the incident.
