In recent time, NIN:National Identity Number registration and validation has been a recurring issue with counter accusations from the students, parents ,adult citizens and the NIMC officials.

Residents have lamented inability to register for their National Identity Number NIN as they made an allegation towards the national Identity management commission for an extortion of money.

Some students and applicants who trooped in to freshfm disclosed that the NIMC officers mandated them to pay money before they could be attended to.

“NIMC official collected 3,000 naira from me to get my NIN revalidation done which is still yet to be done and another person of us has spent 7,000 to and from the NIMC office at New Garage and also on recharge card”.

One of the students also emphasized on how difficult it has been to complete their jamb registrations noting that the NIN has posed a huge hinderance.

“We students that want to register for jamb sent messages to their office but we were told no record found and JAMB will soon close,as this NIN number is needed for registration which will close on the 26th,March 2022.Also gaining entrance to NIMCs office is difficult while we were told to go to Abuja to rectify our issues despite our registration was done in Ibadan NIMC’ s office.
The ones we fill on our phone was deducting 50 naira each time we fill the form day and night without any positive feedback except response of no record found,no validation. The Ibadan North East office staffs don’t always resume early to attend to complainant.
NIN number given to us did not correspond with our image but the officials said it’s not their fault. What Nigeria government do for us is not working,as most of the people go up and down for almost two weeks stressed up and the whole thing is not working”

Meanwhile, in a visit to the NIMC centre at New garage,Ibadan, our Correspondent, Oluwabunmi Olawunmi, who spoke with the NIMC coordinator,Mr. Olusola Shotayo and Head of Inspectorate,Ariye Oluwafemi, pleaded to be off recording, denied all the Allegations put against them while they divulged that most of the errors faced were from the applicants, parents and the citizens, adding that officials never demanded money from them, except the necessary ones paid to designated government accounts.

They said most of the changes and demands of the people takes process and stages while effecting changes in respect of state of origin, date of birth and gender requires restricted modification to be done on the server, subject to Director General’s approval but with documents to proof such.

However, the online site for NIN enrollment, to effect minor correction like NIN validation was released as customer care@ NIMC gov.ng and NIMC-jamb2022@NIMC.gov.ng, as correction takes 24 hours but most 5 days.
