A devastating road crash has resulted in the deaths of nine young men from Yabo Local Government Area in Sokoto State who were en route to Lagos seeking improved economic prospects.
The event that occurred on Friday has plunged the Yabo community into grief, with sympathies flooding in from throughout the state due to the tragic loss of the talented young individuals.
In response to the tragedy that occurred on Saturday night, Umar Yusuf Danmaje Yabo, the representative for the Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, characterized the incident as a heartbreaking loss for the impacted families, the constituency, and the country.
In a condolence statement shared with reporters in Sokoto, Danmaje expressed that he learned the news with deep sadness.
“With great sadness, I learned of the tragic news regarding the road accident that took the lives of nine young men from Yabo Local Government Area.”
“This tragic event is a significant loss, affecting not just the mourning families but also our community, Sokoto State, and the entire nation,” he stated.
The legislator observed that the victims had begun the journey with aspirations of achieving improved living conditions and aiding their families.
These were youthful individuals with aspirations, goals, and the resolve to create a brighter future for themselves and those they care about. “Their premature deaths in the quest for legitimate ways to earn a living are profoundly sorrowful,” Danmaje remarked.
He expressed sorrow that the tragedy showcased the harsh economic conditions faced by numerous Nigerian youths, compelling them to journey far in pursuit of jobs.
The whole community is grieving as we have lost a generation of diligent and hopeful young individuals. Their passing signifies not just a personal sorrow for their families but also a significant loss of valuable human resources for our community,” he continued.
Danmaje stated that no words could sufficiently soothe the grieving families, characterizing the incident as an emotional shock to all of Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency.
He expressed his sympathies to the families of the departed, traditional leaders, community heads, and inhabitants of Yabo Local Government Area.
“I beseech Almighty Allah to bestow eternal tranquility upon the departed souls in Aljannatul Firdaus, provide solace to their families, and grant them the strength and patience to endure this unimaginable loss,” he said.
The federal legislator urged the appropriate authorities, especially road safety agencies, to enhance efforts focused on decreasing deadly road accidents on Nigerian highways.
“We need to enhance initiatives to boost road safety and avert preventable tragedies that continue to take innocent lives.” “Each year, numerous families are plunged into sorrow due to deadly road collisions,” he stated.
Danmaje additionally encouraged governments at every level to allocate more resources towards youth empowerment, skills training, and job creation initiatives to diminish the necessity for young individuals to move throughout the country seeking economic prospects.
“Creating job opportunities nearer to home will alleviate the pressure on young individuals to undertake dangerous long-distance tripsin search of employment,” he stated.
The fatalities of the nine young individuals have reignited worries regarding youth unemployment, internal migration, and road safety, with Yabo residents calling the event one of the community’s bleakest periods in recent memory.
A high-ranking member of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kebbi State Command, who spoke with our reporter on the condition of confidentiality due to a lack of authorization to comment on the incident, stated on Sunday that the event occurred outside the state.
The official stated, “The event occurred near Kainji in Niger State.
“The incident occurred yesterday.” I observed it on the official account of the federal representative for Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency.
“We did not receive the notification we were supposed to get before they took their bodies for interment,” he continued.
