The Lagos State Government has rejected the reports that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been requested to step down due to health concerns, which characterized them as untrue and deceptive.
Gboyega Akosile, the governor’s special adviser on media and publicity, made the denial in a statement on Monday.
A study released by an online platform was criticized by the government, who insisted that it was unfounded.
“We have noted with concern a false report by alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been ordered to resign on health grounds, with the Deputy Governor set to take over,” the statement said in part.
“Everything in this story is untrue. The governor of Lagos has not been requested to step down; this is just more false information that has become the norm.
Governor Sanwo-Olu is actively carrying out his duties as Governor of Lagos State and is in good health and sound mind.”
“Earlier today, the Governor received Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who paid him a courtesy visit to formally notify him of his intention to contest for Governor,” the administration said in response to rumors of a political meeting between the governor and his deputy. As is traditional, the meeting was conducted in a friendly manner.
The Lagos State Government advised the public to dismiss the information as fake news and asked them to ignore it.
According to the government, Governor Sanwo-Olu is still actively involved in state affairs and continues to perform his duties without interruption.
