Shehu Sani flays Kaduna, South African killings, calls them tragic

The senator representing Kaduna Central District at the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has expressed regrets that just when he wanted to condemn the alleged xenophobic killing of two Nigerians in South Africa, he was devastated by the news of an early Monday morning attack on his state.

Twenty persons were reported to have been killed in a renewed attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Ungwan Aku village, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Monday; while scores reportedly sustained gunshot injuries.

And in South Africa, two Nigerian men were stabbed to death during xenophobic attacks in Johannesburg and Cape Town on April 5 and 6, 2019, respectively, the News Agency of Nigeria reported, quoting the Assistant Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Union in South Africa, Mr. Odefa Ikele.

Taking to his verified Twitter handle @ShehuSani on Tuesday, the senator had tweeted, “I was about to condemn the killing of two Nigerians in South Africa, then the call that 20 people were killed in my constituency same day; I condemned both. Tragic deaths at home and abroad.”

The senator had earlier taken a swipe at governors who he noted spend much of their time in Abuja from Monday to Thursday in the name of holding meetings with President Muhammadu Buhari while their states are in flames.

“While their states are in flames, most of the governors spend Mondays to Thursdays in Abuja in the name of meeting with Mr. President. And on Fridays, praying with Mr. President in the Villa mosques,” the senator had tweeted.

The tweets have since received criticisms, concerns and commendations from his social media followers.
