A newly recruited soldier, Dauda Dedan, has reportedly stabbed police constable Aaron John of the Taraba State Command to death in Jalingo, the state capital.
Confirming the incident to newsmen in Jalingo on Wednesday, James Lashen, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command said the tragic incident took place around 9:00 p.m. on Monday in Mayo-Goyi, a suburb of Jalingo town.
Lashen explained that late John had responded to a distress call from residents reporting a misunderstanding between them and the soldier. In the process of intervening, the soldier allegedly stabbed him.
The PPRO added that the soldier is currently at large, but the army has launched an investigation into the incident and assured the Police that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect and ensure he faces the full wrath of the law.
“We have reported the matter to 6 Brigade headquarters of the Nigerian Army, and we have been given full assurances of tracking down the fugitive soldier to face the full wrath of the law.
“Both the army and the police are working hand in hand. We have gotten to the house of the soldier, we would ensure he is arrested and is brought to book accordingly,” he said.
Lashen, therefore, emphasized that the relationship between the Police and the Army remains cordial.
