Son Allegedly Kills 70-Years-Old Mother In Akwa Ibom

There is disarray in Etim Ekpo Local Governement Area in Akwa Ibom following the alleged murder of Mma-Offiong James Peter, aged 70, by her son Inyangake James Peter.

After being taken into custody by the authorities on April 4, 2024, at approximately 9:00 am, the suspect claimed he followed a voice that kept telling him to kill her.

Odiko Macdon, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Akwa Ibom State Command, made this announcement on Monday.

The statement said, “On April 4, 2024, at about 9:00 am, at Ikpe Annang Village in Etim Ekpo LGA, one Inyangake James Peter, 40 years old, was arrested by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for the heinous murder of his biological mother, Mma-Offiong James Peter, approximately 70 years old.

“The Suspect who confessed to the crime has been transferred to the state CID for discrete investigation.

During questioning, the suspect claimed to have heard a voice telling him to “kill her,” so he did as instructed.

In a similar incident, the statement said that Solomon Asuquo Isaac, who killed his kid due to a family dispute, has also been taken into custody by the police.

It said, “Also, one Solomon Asuquo Isaac of Ikot Obok Nsit in Nsit Ibom LGA who killed his son, one Iboro Isaac, 18-years-old, last year as a result of a family dispute, has been detained.

The Command is extremely concerned about cases in which family members have killed their biological relatives in the recent past.

According to the statement, the command also detained a second suspect for having ammunition and weapons on him.

After conducting a stop and search on September 4, 2024, Raycon Construction Company’s Anti-Robbery Squad of the Command stopped and arrested Ekemini Edet Akpan of Ekpene Ikpan Village, Nsit Ibom LGA, for possessing a locally manufactured gun, a revolver pistol, and eighteen live cartridges.

The statement concluded with the following: “Suspects will be charged to court after investigation.”

In April 20, It was reported that a 37-year-old man in Anambra State, Chigorom Ezeofor, reportedly hacked his father to death.

According to information obtained, the event took place at Umuchiana village within the state’s Aguata Local Government Area.

A family source said the suspect had been acting strangely prior to the incident.
