The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Special Marshals play a crucial role in improving road safety and lowering the number of collisions and fatalities in Nigeria, according to Shehu Mohammed.

Mohammed made this statement on Thursday in Dutse, Jigawa State, at Governor Umar Namadi’s inauguration as Nigeria’s Patron, Special Marshal, and Safety Ambassador.

The corps marshal, who was represented by Idris Lawal, the Kano Sector Commander, stated that Special Marshals continued to be an essential volunteer component of the FRSC, especially in the areas of traffic control, public education, intelligence gathering, and accident prevention.

“To fulfilll our corporate mandate of reducing road traffic crashes and fatalities, their role in traffic management, public enlightenment, and intelligence gathering remains invaluable,” he stated.

Mohammed praised Namadi for his contributions to Jigawa’s road development and safety, stating that the governor’s leadership and support for the state’s road safety programs were reflected in the accolade.

In order to promote safe road use, he continued, Namadi’s patronage will improve cooperation between the state administration, FRSC, and Special Marshals.

Road safety is a shared obligation between the government and all road users, according to Namadi, who was represented by Ahmad Sani, Permanent Secretary, Jigawa Ministry of Works and Transport.

“All road users must equally demonstrate discipline, caution, and respect for traffic regulations, even though the government will continue to provide and maintain good road infrastructure,” he stated.

In order to strengthen the state’s road infrastructure, the governor said that his government had finished 26 inherited road projects and started new ones.

He said that the improvements had increased communities’ access to safer roadways and improved connection.

The seminar was organized by the RS1 Headquarters, which includes the Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa Sector Commands.

“Repositioning Special Marshal for Greater Impact: Through Strategic Partnerships and Data Driven Road Safety Intervention” was the conference’s theme.

Usman Ya’u, the Zonal Coordinator for Special Marshals, stated that the conference gave Special Marshals and road safety stakeholders a forum to improve collaboration.

Adaji Usman, the National Coordinator for Special Marshals, also advised members to follow the authorized dress code and refrain from wearing unapproved items with official regalia.

Usman stated that their identification cards would soon be available and advised Special Marshals in need of operating materials to use the proper lines of contact.

Along with members of road transport unions, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders, the conference was attended by FRSC personnel from the Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa commands.
