TWO men, Wasiu Olaniyan, 25 and Yusuf Ali, 24, were on Tuesday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing gold jewellery valued at N2 million.

Olaniyan and Yusuf, first and second defendants, who live at Mushin and Ijaiye areas of Lagos respectively, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen goods before Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi.

Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ezekiel Ayorinde, said the defendants committed the offences on May 18 at Ijaiye, Lagos.

ASP Ayorinde alleged that Olaniyan stole the jewellery belonging to Adebayo Oloyede and sold it to Ali for N10,000.

He said Olaniyan also stole the complainant’s phone valued N58,000.

He said the phone was later traced to Abule-Egba,

ASP Ayorinde said Olaniyan was arrested while attempting to carry out another crime of dispossessing people of their property.

He said he later led the police to arrest co-defendant Ali.

Magistrate Osunsanmi granted Olaniyan N250,000 bail with two sureties in like the sum.

Ali, on the other hand, was granted N200,000 bail with one surety in the like sum.

Osunsanmi said the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payments to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till August 18.
