The Director-General, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, Dr Dikko Radda, has lamented that the unemployment situation in Nigeria had reached a crisis level.

He noted that statistics had shown that only one out of every 100 graduates was assured of getting a job in Nigeria.

Radda said this in Abeokuta on Thursday at the opening of the sensitisation programme organised by SMEDAN for young business owners in Nigeria.

Radda explained that the programme was initiated to reduce unemployment and increase working hours of Nigerians as well as contribute to gross domestic products through the provision of conducive workspace for the entrepreneurs.

He however, said a dearth of skilled personnel and entrepreneurial competence was a major cause of unemployment among the youths.

The DG, who was represented by the Assistant Director, Enterprise Development and Promotion Department, Mrs Ime Andy, also added that inadequate vocational skill centres and the non-orientation of educational system to the production of vocational skills aligned to industry requirements were also causes of unemployment.
