A 35-year-old lady named Osasere was taken into custody, after being discovered tossing her infant into the River Ovia in the Ovia North East Local Government Area.
Osasere, who was apprehended by fisherman and managed to avoid being lynched, said in a widely shared video that a seer informed her the infant was a python demon. After pursuing her, the fishermen hauled her into a canoe so they could search for the baby.
According to Osasere, she gave birth to a child five years ago, but the child was unable to walk, and she had multiple miscarriages during her subsequent attempts to conceive.
She claimed that her friend brought her to a seer who claimed that her five-year-old son was a python and was in charge of devouring the babies inside her.
She claimed that in order to become pregnant, the seer suggested that she toss the infant into the river. As of the time of publication, attempts to recover the baby’s body had failed.
On Wednesday, Eno Ikoedem, the state police command spokeswoman, disclosed that both the woman and the seer were under police custody.
“They are both in custody, and operatives are already investigating the matter,” she said.
