The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University, Prof. Muhammad Bashir Tahir, has cautioned staff members against absenteeism, stating that any employee who fails to report for duty will forfeit their salary.

Tahir issued the warning on Thursday while touring faculties and major units of the university on the second day of his official visit.

He emphasized that discipline and accountability would be the cornerstone of his administration, adding that while staff welfare would receive due attention, negligence of duty would not be condoned.

“Non-teaching staff who are not coming to work will have their salaries stopped. There will be no room for truancy in this university,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor also instructed staff members currently on study leave to submit their progress reports in accordance with institution’s regulations, warning that non-compliance would result in suspension of salary.

While reiterating discipline, Tahir assured both staff and students of his resolve to enhance welfare and create a more conducive teaching and learning environment.

He further revealed plans to upgrade the university clinic into a fully equipped clinical complex capable of handling surgical operations, aimed at strengthening healthcare services within the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor further tasked the Investment Unit to strengthen the university’s internally generated revenue through innovative and sustainable initiatives, noting that financial stability remains crucial to institutional growth.

Tahir also raised concern over persistent cases of mass failure among students, urging improved teaching standards, full coverage of course outlines, and fair assessment.

He called on academic and non-teaching staff, alongside students, to uphold discipline, responsibility, and and a shared commitment to achieving academic excellence and sustainable development within the university.
