As part of efforts geared towards free and fair election in 2023 , the Nigeria police force has commenced a three-day security management workshop for officers in the South-West Zone.
The three day workshop taking place at Ona-Ara local government Area of Oyo state is themed ‘enhancing national security capacity for a secure and Credible Electoral Process in Nigeria’.
Speaking on the success of the similar workshop in other states to include Kano, Enugu, Benin and Maiduguri, a former Inspector -General of police, Solomon Arase who facilitated the programme said the workshop is driven to achieve a credible election and also strengthen national security.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, ZONE 2, Bode Adeyinka, representing the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba noted that security plays a major role in achieving a peaceful election as he solicited the cooperation of citizens.
Also speaking at the workshop, the Oyo state commissioner of police, Adebowale Williams assured that the Oyo state police command will work assiduously with other security agencies to ensure that the state records fairness in the forthcoming 2023 general election.
Meanwhile, the Deputy speaker of Oyo state House of Assembly, Honorable Muhammed Fadeyi has disclosed that lawmakers are working hard through bills and motions to achieve peaceful elections.
Dignitaries at the workshop include former Inspector General of Police, Dr. Solomon Arase, traditional rulers, religious leaders and INEC officials, political stakeholders among others.
