Lydia Simon, an abducted girl from the Chibok Secondary School, has been rescued by Troops of Nigeria Army stationed in the Northeast.

According to a statement released by the Department of Army Public Relations on Friday, soldiers carrying out Operation Desert Sanity III saved Lydia, who had serial number 68, and her three children.

“Lydia, one of the girls abducted from Chibok Secondary School and assigned serial number 68, was saved, together with her three children, by the military during Operation Desert Sanity III in the vicinity of Ngoshe in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State”. According to the statement, Lydia claimed to be from Pemi Town in Chibok and was five months pregnant when she was saved.

Of the 271 students who were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents thus far, 57 girls managed to escape early in 2014, 103 were set free thanks to Federal Government assistance, 20 more were rescued through State Government efforts, and 92 students remain in captivity.

According to the statement, the troops ambushed and neutralized three terrorists in Tse Kpese Community in Zaki Biam Local Government of Benue State on Tuesday while on deployment for counter-insurgency operations in the North Central.
Three AK-47 weapons and four magazines were also recovered from the terrorists.
