Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, has declared plans to purchase drones and more supplies in order to improve surveillance and rapid response operations in border areas that are susceptible to bandit attacks.
The information was stated in a statement made on Wednesday and signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa.
According to the statement, the governor said on Tuesday while reviewing the readiness of Joint Task Force (JTF) personnel at their three locations in Tsanyawa and Shanono Local Government Areas, where bandits recently carried out coordinated attacks.
The visit follows months of escalating insecurity along the Kano–Katsina border, where numerous incursions by armed groups have left communities on edge and sparked intensive multi-agency deployments.
Governor Yusuf urged locals of the impacted communities to support security operatives with actionable intelligence on bandit movements to help curb further attacks.
He further claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu responded positively when he updated him on the developing crisis and requested federal backing.
The governor directed the JTF to step up efforts to secure the release of residents who had been abducted from Tsanyawa and Shanono.
“We are aware that they have been attacking innocent communities, especially here in Tsanyawa and Shanono Local Government Areas. Many innocent lives were taken away, and many innocent people were also sent to the bush. “We would secure drones and other logistics for surveillance and rapid response to protect inhabitants of the border areas.”
“I assured you that by God’s grace, those who were kidnapped will be brought back to their families.”
Yusuf informed the troops that his visit was to examine the security situation, make direct interactions with operatives and encourage them to give their best to the ongoing operations.
“This type of insecurity in Kano State is something new; it is something alien that has just been observed in the state, and the government is doing its best to address the situation with the cooperation of security agencies,” the governor added.
He added pledged that his administration will provide the essential welfare support to front line security troops.
The statement stated that during the evaluation tour, the governor met families of kidnapped victims and condoled with them, assuring them that efforts to gain their release were being strengthened.
Recent attacks in the two councils purportedly resulted in the abduction of between five and ten persons, while a woman was slain during one of the incident.
