On Friday, Jennifer Odonwodo, the wife of late Nollywood actor JohnPaul Odonwodo, better known by his stage as Junior Pope, honoured her husband and described how she learned of his passing.
She called the event “the most devastating call” of her life in a statement on her Instagram page.
“This day, two years ago, at about some minutes past 3pm, while getting dressed to go for a photoshoot, I received the most devastating call of my life… Awele, the boat JP was on just capsized,” the mother of three wrote.
“My hands began to shake right away, but I clung to the idea that it was a joke.”
“I was driven to the scene and saw the very massive crowd… a black Hilux drove past me with my husband lying lifeless in its trunk with the same red shorts he wore when he left the house,” she continued, describing how she got there. I yelled “JESUSSSSS,” and I’m positive that Heaven heard the echo.
Jennifer also disclosed the psychological toll the event had on her, saying that she was admitted to the hospital due to a sharp increase in blood pressure.
“I was admitted right away after the doctor checked my blood pressure, which was over 210 for some reason,” she added.
“I was in denial, because how can someone who told me to warm and keep the jollof rice he had the night before to have the same night of April 10th not be here to eat it?” she continued, expressing her shock at the loss.
“Until the morning pallbearers brought in his casket on their shoulders and very loud canon sounds ushered him in, I still had hope of JP’s resurrection,” she continued.
“Johnpaul Obumneme Odonwodo, God is taking care of your children and me, and your mother as well,” Jennifer said in her post, which featured several videos of Junior Pope having fun with her and their children. Although it hasn’t been simple, God has been dependable.
“Continue to rest peacefully in God’s bosom, Swag King,” she said as she completed her prayer for his tranquil sleep. We really do miss you.
