Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s 2023 vice presidential candidate, has declared his decision to join the Peoples Redemption Party and resign from the Labour Party.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Tuesday, he revealed the information.
Internal conflicts, a departure from the party’s core principles, and purported government meddling in opposition politics were the reasons given by Baba-Ahmed, who stood with Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi in the 2023 general election.
“They redeployed someone to come with a specific purpose and to make life difficult, especially for me, due to the individual’s antecedents.” However, what the Labour Party stood for back then is different from what it is now, he remarked.
He accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of putting opposition party dismantling ahead of administration.
“We have had a government whose main goal is to destroy other political parties. Destroying political parties is more crucial than combating instability, improving our economy, and putting an end to theft, he stated.
Baba-Ahmed announced that he would be leaving the LP at midnight and that the PRP would be his next political destination.
“I’m joining PRP and leaving the Labour Party at midnight tonight. The new destination is PRP. The one with the history is PRP. It’s roughly seventy-five years old,” he said.
In advance of the 2027 elections, he stated that he would endeavor to produce “a genuine southern, possibly Christian candidate” from the PRP.
Baba-Ahmed was evasive when asked if he was considering running for president, but he did not rule it out, stating that he was happy with his accomplishments.
“A university license, another university license, the largest private hospital in Africa, the House of Representatives at 33, the Senate at 41, and so on. He asked, “Why must I be president or vice president?”
