Ahead of the 2027 general election, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has denied rumors that he is connected to a potential presidential ticket that includes former President Goodluck Jonathan and a group within the Peoples Democratic Party.
Following rumors on social media that he was being considered as Jonathan’s running mate when the former president became the presidential candidate of a PDP faction headed by Kabiru Turaki, the governor responded.
At a special national convention on Saturday in Abuja, Jonathan was chosen as the faction’s presidential flag bearer. Fred Agbedi, a federal member from Bayelsa State, accepted his certificate of return even though he was not present.
After Nuhu Sada, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress, stated on Twitter that rumors claimed Mohammed and Jonathan might be teamed for the 2027 presidential contest, the rumors gained momentum.
Mohammed refuted any involvement in such political arrangements in a post on Sunday using his verified X handle in response to the allegation.
The governor declared that his goal in politics is still to represent the Bauchi South Senatorial District under the Allied Peoples Movement platform.
“I appreciate your interest in my political goals. To be clear, though, my primary emphasis is still running for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat on the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) platform,” Mohammed stated.
Additionally, the governor asked the people to disregard any stories that would indicate otherwise.
He declared, “Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate.”
According to reports, Mohammed just joined the APM after leaving the PDP due to ongoing internal conflicts and leadership issues inside the major opposition party.
His most recent explanation seems to be intended to refute rumors about his political future and reiterate his intention to run for senator in 2027.
