The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has freed activists Randy Peter and Mama Pee after they both responded to an invitation from the anti-corruption agency in Abuja.
The activists were freed just after midnight on Wednesday after being questioned for several hours and were told to come back to the commission’s office on Thursday, as reported by their colleague, Justice Cracks.
Justice Crack, who went with the pair to the EFCC headquarters, shared the news in a post on X on Wednesday.
He stated that the activists were ultimately permitted to exit the commission’s office after approximately 11 hours spent there.
“They were finally released at approximately 12:00 a.m. and were instructed to come back the next day, 16th July 2026.” “For the time being, all is well,” he stated.
Justice Cracks posted a video taken from the parking lot of the EFCC headquarters while awaiting the arrival of the activists.
On Wednesday, worries increased about the duo’s location after Peter Obi’s 2023 campaign photographer for the National Democratic Congress, Esther Umoh, disclosed that they had not departed the commission’s office many hours after accepting the invitation.
“@MamaPee__ and @Peter4Nigeria attended an invitation from the EFCC in Abuja today, showing their respect as citizens.” “However, as I am writing this, the commission has not yet released them,” Umoh stated on X.
The extended meeting sparked rumors on social media that the activists could have been detained.
Justice Crack later stated that both activists had been freed and were to report back to the EFCC headquarters on Thursday as instructed by the commission.
The EFCC has not yet revealed the reason for summoning the activists.
