There have been reports of at least four Almajiris (Qur’anic school students) dying in Kano after consuming food that may have been tainted.

In a statement released on Monday, Alaramma Sani Musa Nuhu, National Chairman of the Tsangaya Media Network, verified the occurrence.

The statement said that the impacted pupils were from Kadage Sharifai, Malam Iliyasu Mai Tsangaya, Ungoggo Local Government Area, Kano State.

According to the statement, the impacted kids were sent to Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical care after it was discovered that they had food poisoning.

However, according to the statement, “the students reportedly died at the hospital on Sunday nite, August 16th, 2026.”

The precise circumstances surrounding the deaths are unclear because the statement did not specify the type of food consumed or the substance suspected of causing the illness.

It further said that the Divisional Police Officer and the District Head (Dagaci) gave their assent before the deceased’s remains were buried.

As of the time this report was filed, the police had not yet released an official comment regarding the occurrence.
