After raping one woman and sexually abusing another while out on bail, a 30-year-old man was given a 12-year prison sentence.
Olukanyinsola Odebode was characterized as “very predatory” and as having “humiliated and degraded his victims” before refuting any wrongdoing and coercing them into testifying at his trial.
Wales Online reported on Saturday that the crimes were committed between June 2024 and September 2025 before Swansea Crown Court.
Odebode raped and sexually abused a woman in the Gwent Police area prior to his arrest and subsequent release on bond. In the Dyfed-Powys Police region, he later sexually attacked another woman.
Before going back to court for sentence, he was found guilty of one count of rape and two charges of assault by penetration during the trial.
Prosecutor Mark Wyeth KC informed the court that Odebode was a threat to women and that his acts had “life-altering consequences for his victims.”
Odebode’s lack of understanding of his offense and his “complete rejection” of the jury’s conclusions were underscored in a Probation Service report, according to the prosecution.
The court heard the report’s conclusion that he “poses a high risk of serious harm underpinned by attitudes of entitlement.”
Additionally, the prosecution included victim impact statements that described how Odebode’s acts affected the two ladies.
He was described as “very predatory” by one of the victims.
The court also heard that since 2019, seven other women had complained to the police about Odebode’s sexual behavior; however, those cases did not result in convictions.
Rape, indecent exposure, sexual assault, and stalking were among the accusations made earlier.
Gainsborough Road, Cefn Golau, Tredegar resident Odebode has no prior convictions.
While completing his term, Odebode’s attorney, Matt Murphy, told the court that it was anticipated he would get more understanding of his offense.
Judge Huw Rees, however, stated that he had determined that Odebode was a “sexually precocious person” based on reports presented to the court and evidence heard during the trial.
The judge acknowledged the probation officer’s concerns on the defendant’s lack of understanding of his offense and stated that the defendant’s actions had a “profound” impact on his two victims.
Because of the danger Odebode posed to the public, Judge Rees decided that a lengthier term was required.
Odebode was then given a 12-year enhanced sentence, which included three years on a license after nine years in jail.
Before he can request release, he must complete two-thirds of the custodial phase. Whether he is safe to be freed will be decided by the Parole Board.
Additionally, Odebode will spend the rest of his life on the sex offenders’ register.
