Tyson Fury has raised new concerns about his eagerly awaited showdown with fellow British heavyweight Anthony Joshua, stating that it “doesn’t look like it’s going to happen” in the midst of a continuous disagreement about the venue.
One of the biggest bouts in British boxing history was supposed to take place between the two combatants in November.
However, disagreement over whether the competition should be held in the US or the UK has hindered negotiations.
While Saudi organizers and other stakeholders prefer Madison Square Garden in New York, Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, are working to uphold an agreement for the bout to take place in the UK.
Speaking on social media, Fury attributed the most recent uncertainty to Hearn and Joshua’s camp, as reported on Friday.
“Eddie Hearn and Anthony Joshua want more money, so it doesn’t look like they’re going to sign the fight and it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen,” Fury remarked.
According to Hearn, Joshua would have tax ramifications if the fight were moved to the US, and he might end up with less money than he would from a UK event.
In his furious response, Fury called Joshua and Hearn “disgusting” and “money-thirsty,” then accused his longtime adversary of missing the guts to confront him.
Fury remarked, “I’ll move on and fight somebody else, but just know that you never had the guts to fight Tyson Fury, ever.”
New York is presently one of the top venues for the planned battle, which is supported by Saudi organizers and is anticipated to be shown by Netflix. There hasn’t been a definitive agreement on the location, though.
Hearn has previously insisted that talks are still underway and that Joshua is eager to take on Fury, despite Fury’s most recent outburst. However, the long-anticipated all-British heavyweight bout now faces fresh uncertainty due to the disagreement over the location and financial terms.
“After his British rival asked ‘for more money,’ Tyson Fury says the Anthony Joshua fight is seriously doubtful.”
