Jude Bellingham, a midfielder for England, thinks the team is more cohesive going into the World Cup this summer than it was during its run to the Euro 2024 final.
Bellingham, who was instrumental in helping England go to the final before succumbing to Spain, considered the team’s experience and stated that the competition had taught them valuable lessons.
“At the Euros we got some things a little bit wrong off the pitch,” Bellingham stated on England’s Lions’ Den show, according to report.
For a variety of reasons, I don’t think the group is as cohesive as it could be. It included expectations.
After making it to the 2018 World Cup semifinals and the quarterfinals in Qatar four years later, England was among the favorites going into Euro 2024. Even though they made it to the final, performances were frequently criticized.
“Even when we were winning, you didn’t feel as happy as you should have because we weren’t playing particularly well,” Bellingham continued.
According to the 22-year-old, the team needs to find a balance between keeping a winning mindset and relishing success when it occurs.
“We should hold on to that moment a little longer because it is the nature of football that wins and goes out of the system quickly, but there has to be that element of relentlessness and wanting to win,” he stated.
Bellingham emphasized the significance of each member of the team feeling appreciated and included as he looked ahead to England’s World Cup campaign.
“I think this time around, having those experiences, and knowing, for instance, that the guy who scores the winning goal in the World Cup final isn’t always the one you’d bet your house on, you’ve got to be ready, and everyone has to feel loved and like a huge part of the team,” he remarked.
“Enjoying it is the other thing.”
Next Wednesday, England will play their first World Cup match against Croatia in Arlington, Texas, in an attempt to end their protracted wait for major event victory.
