Six teams have qualified for the round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage, while four teams have been eliminated following the second round of group matches.
Along with Germany, Argentina, France, and Norway, co-hosts Mexico and the United States had secured their spots in the knockout stage as of Tuesday morning, June 23.
After defeating South Africa and the Korean Republic, Mexico won Group A and were the first team to qualify.
On June 30 in Mexico City, the Round of 32 will pit the El Tri against a third-place team from Groups C, E, F, H, or I.
Soon after, the United States defeated Australia and Paraguay to advance in Group D.
On July 1, Mauricio Pochettino’s team will play a third-place club from Groups B, E, F, I, or J in the San Francisco Bay Area after finishing as group champions as well.
Following consecutive victories over Curaçao and Côte d’Ivoire in Group E, Germany became the first European team to advance.
Later, it was confirmed that Julian Nagelsmann’s team had won the group. On June 29, they will play a third-place team from Groups A, B, C, D, or F in Boston.
With victories over Algeria and Austria, Argentina qualified from Group J thanks to Lionel Messi’s five goals in two games.
The reigning champions, who won the group, will play the runners-up from Group H in Miami on July 3.
Following wins over Senegal and Iraq, France also advanced from Group I, with Kylian Mbappé scoring twice in each game.
After defeating Senegal and Iraq to secure qualifying, Norway joined them from the same group.
However, due to their inability to secure enough points in their individual groups, Haiti, Tunisia, Turkey, and Jordan were eliminated from the competition.
After losing to Brazil and Scotland, Haiti left, and Tunisia lost to Sweden and Japan.
Jordan was eliminated after losing to Algeria and Austria, and Turkey was eliminated after losing to Australia and Paraguay.
