In separate operations in Zamfara State, members of the Joint Task Force Northwest, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have apprehended three suspected gun smugglers and freed six abducted victims.
According to the Joint Task Force, the activities on Sunday, August 23, 2026, also resulted in the seizure of an AK-103-2 rifle, one magazine, and thirty rounds of ammo.
This was revealed in a statement released on Monday by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Joint Task Force’s media information officer.
According to Danja, a car carrying three alleged gunrunners was stopped by Sector 2 forces on the Kaura Namoda–Shinkafi Road.
According to him, the gun, magazine, and ammunition were found inside a bag of millet during a check of the car.
“The weapons cache was intended for Yar-Galadima in Maru Local Government Area, according to preliminary investigations,” he stated.
He claims that the three suspects, along with the guns and other materials that were found, are presently being held by the military for additional investigation.
In a different operation, soldiers responded to a distress call when drivers on the Anka–Gummi Road were attacked.
According to Danja, the terrorists tried to drive their prisoners into a neighboring woodland when the army confronted them.
He claimed that as the troops’ pressure increased, the assailants were forced to escape, leaving all six victims behind.
“The rescued individuals were immediately secured by the troops,” he stated, noting that three patients with minor injuries were taken to a hospital and are now in stable condition.
According to the Joint Task Force, the activities showed its dedication to preventing terrorist organizations from obtaining weapons and safeguarding communities and drivers throughout the Northwest.
Danja stated that in order to combat criminal elements within its jurisdiction, the task force would continue to use intelligence-driven operations, tough patrols, and quick response.
In addition, he thanked locals for their cooperation and asked them to continue being watchful and to give security services fast, reliable information about suspicious people, weapons, and movements.
“In our mission to dismantle terrorist networks and ensure the safety of lives and property throughout the Northwest region, public cooperation remains a critical component,” he stated.
