Dotun Oladipo, the 56-year-old managing director and CEO of Premium Eagle Media Limited, has reportedly passed away.
Eagle Online’s parent business is Premium Eagle Media Limited.
Early on Wednesday, the Eagle Online website revealed Oladipo’s passing.
Oladipo was in his “usual state of health earlier in the day before suddenly taking ill at his office,” according to the article.
His passing was reported as a “shock” to friends, coworkers, and associates.
Oladipo drove himself to an unidentified hospital just hours before he died, according to The Cable.
Danlami Nmodu, President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, confirmed the renowned journalist’s passing on the guild’s WhatsApp channel on Tuesday.
Oladipo served as the guild’s previous president.
The death of Mr. Dotun Oladipo, the Emeritus President, was confirmed today.
“May he rest in peace.” The message said, “Amen.”
Additionally, Nkanu Egbe, General Secretary of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society, made the following announcement on Wednesday: “It is with great sorrow that I announce the sudden death of our President, Mr. Dotun Oladipo, who passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, in Lagos, at the age of 56.”
Along with a remarkable journalism career spanning almost three decades, Mr. Oladipo headed our cooperative with dedication. His departure is a terrible loss for Nigerian media in general as well as for IMPCMS.
Funeral plans and other significant issues, he said, would be announced later.
As more information about funeral plans, condolence visits, and temporary leadership issues becomes available, the Executive Committee will share it.
He said, “Members are urged to keep his family and our cooperative in their prayers during this difficult time.”
Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress presidential candidate, called the dead a “complete gentleman, accomplished digital journalist, and remarkable human being” in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
“Dotun Oladipo has passed away,” he wrote. My deepest sympathies go out to his friends, family, coworkers, and the Nigerian digital journalism community as a whole.
“May Dotun Oladipo rest in peace!”
Oladipo used to work for Punch Newspapers as a politics editor.
Prior to starting Eagle Online, he was employed by The Sun, Nigerian Tribune, and Nigerian Compass.
In 1992, he graduated from Ogun State Polytechnic in Abeokuta with a Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication.
