Nigeria’s domestic cooking gas supply increased to 5,332 tons per day in July 2026, with NLNG/SEPNU emerging as the major provider, according to data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

The total supply of liquefied petroleum gas rose from 5,100 tons per day in June to 5,332 tons per day in July, according to the NMDPRA’s midstream and downstream data from July 2026.

Through vessels, NLNG/SEPNU supplied 2,031 tons per day, or roughly 38% of the month’s total supply.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery delivered 829 tons daily, while other processing facilities supplied 1,513 tons daily via trucks.

959 tons were imported every day.

According to the data, 4,373 tons per day, or roughly 82% of the total LPG supply in July, came from domestic sources, with imports making up the remaining 18%.

During the 13 months that the NMDPRA data covered, the July supply level was the greatest.

The daily supply of LPG was 4,500 tons in July 2025, then increased to 5,000 tons in August before falling to 3,900 tons in September of the same year.

After that, it rose to 4,500 tons in October, 5,000 tons in November, and 5,200 tons in December.

The daily supply was 5,100 tons in January 2026, then dropped to 4,700 tons in February and March, 4,500 tons in April, and 4,100 tons in May.

After that, the daily supply level increased to 5,100 tons in June and 5,332 tons in July.

The majority of the cooking gas accessible in the nation now comes from local sources, according to the most recent statistics, which show a sustained strengthening of the domestic LPG supply.

But according to our correspondent, since the abrupt spike in May, LPG prices have not yet dropped below N1,000 per kilogramme.

However, depending on the locality, prices have dropped from a peak of N2,400/kg to N1,300 to N1,600.

Recently, NLNG accused some marketers of purchasing liquefied petroleum gas from the business at prices between N800 and N900 per kilogramme and selling it for as much as N2,400/kg in the retail market, hence contributing to the dramatic increase in cooking gas costs.

During a recent media briefing in Lagos, NLNG’s Managing Director and CEO, Adeleye Falade, revealed this. He blamed the price increase on supply shortfalls, artificial scarcity, and distribution chain distortions rather than the company’s pricing.
