Adejuwon Adekunle, also known as Asa, was shot and killed by gunmen close to a recreation center in the Dele Yes Sir neighborhood of Osogbo, Osun State.
Unidentified attackers allegedly traced Adekunle to the region and attacked him between 1:30 and 2 a.m. on Tuesday.
As of the time this report was filed, the circumstances surrounding the killing were still unknown.
However, the Osun State Police Command assured that an investigation had begun to determine the circumstances behind the killing, stating that preliminary results revealed the incident might be cult-related.
In a phone chat with our correspondent on Tuesday, Abiodun Ojelabi, the command’s spokeswoman, acknowledged the occurrence and stated that the victim was shot and taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
“What happened in Dele Yes Sir is suspected to be a cult-related attack,” stated Ojelabi. The event happened on Tuesday at around two in the morning.
We learned that a few armed individuals had entered the area and were intermittently firing. After being shot, Adejuwon Adekunle, also known as Asa, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. The morgue received his body.
For a more covert investigation, the Commissioner of Police has ordered that the matter be sent to the Criminal Investigation Department. In relation to the incident, we have not made any arrests.
Olalekan Oyeyemi, also known as Emir Ajagungbade, was an Accord Party leader who was killed in Ile-Ife on Sunday. According to the command, several people were invited and questioned in connection with the incident.
However, Ojelabi refused to reveal who was invited to be questioned.
“No arrest has been made yet,” he stated. Our agents at the Criminal Investigation Department invited a few people, and they were questioned on the occurrence.
According to reports, the number of people apparently murdered in the shooting incident at the Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife has increased to two after the police found another body within the park’s perimeter.
The event occurred on Monday, when Oyeyemi’s remains were buried in accordance with customary customs at his recently finished home in Osogbo’s Agunbelewo neighborhood.
Oyeyemi was shot and killed on Sunday at the Mayfair Motor Park following a confrontation with a gang led by Sibi, another National Union of Road Transport Workers leader.
Following the event, a video showing Oyeyemi lying face down in a pool of blood inside a car went viral on social media.
