A 20-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old lady in the Oke Sopen neighborhood of Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, according to the Ogun State Police Command.

It was discovered on Thursday that the event happened on Sunday while the victim went to pick up a key from a nearby person.

The woman, whose identity has been suppressed, described how the incident happened in a video interview. She claimed that two guys had dragged her inside a building.

“I went to pick up a key at a location on Sunday,” she stated. I took the key from the individual when I arrived. Bolu and Ayo, two guys, took me inside and gang-raped me as I was leaving. I don’t know the second person; I just know the one I frequently greet.

Opeyemi Oluborode, the Ogun State Police Command’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the event in a statement on Thursday. He said that after receiving the information, police officers gave the victim a medical examination form and took her to a hospital to be examined.

“In connection with the alleged gang-rape of a 19-year-old female victim in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo, operatives of the Ogun State Police Command attached to the Ijebu-Igbo Division have arrested a 20-year-old suspect, while an intensive manhunt has been launched to track down his fleeing accomplice,” he said.

“The arrest comes after the victim’s mother formally reported an event that happened on August 30, 2026, at their home in Odo Idi Scale, Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo, to the station on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at approximately 10:10 a.m.

Police officers visited and secured the crime area as soon as they received the report in order to collect important evidence. Investigating police quickly transported the victim to the General Hospital, accompanied by a formal Police Medical Form, for a thorough medical evaluation and treatment in accordance with conventional protocols and survivor-centered care.

Oluborode stated that while efforts were on to capture his claimed accomplice, police officers later located and detained one of the accused.

“Operatives successfully located and arrested one suspect, identified as Ayomide Kamula, aged 20, following preliminary inquiries,” he stated.

“While strong operational measures and intelligence-led searches have been intensified to track down and apprehend the fleeing co-suspect, identified as Boye Balogun, ‘m,’ who remains at large, the suspect is currently in police custody undergoing interrogation.”

He mentioned that the State Criminal Investigation Department had been tasked with looking into the case further.

Bode Ojajuni, the state commissioner of police, responded to the event by stating that the command will not put up with any acts of sexual or gender-based violence.

The Command’s unwavering commitment to a zero-tolerance stance against sexual offenses throughout the state was reaffirmed by the CP.

The statement added, “He assured the victim’s family and the general public that a comprehensive, covert investigation is underway and that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring the fleeing suspect is brought to book to face the full weight of the law.”
