A 50-year-old man has been detained by the Bauchi State Police Command on suspicion of abusing a nine-year-old girl in the Bulkachuwa community of Katagum Local Government Area.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Habib, that the suspect was taken into custody by Bulkachuwa Divisional Police Headquarters agents after the victim’s father filed a report.
The statement claims that the incident happened on June 14, 2026, at around 5 p.m., when the suspect allegedly tricked the youngster, who was selling soy bean cakes, into going to an unfinished structure under the pretense of making a purchase before attacking her.
Habib stated, “The complainant, a Bulkachuwa resident, reported that on June 14, 2026, at approximately 5 p.m., one Muhammadu Audu of the same address lured his nine-year-old daughter while she was hawking soya bean cakes, according to a report received at the Bulkachuwa Divisional Police Headquarters on June 15, 2026, at approximately 5 p.m.
The suspect then allegedly had illegal sex with the juvenile after taking her to an unfinished structure under the guise of purchasing from her.
“The victim suffered injuries to her private parts as a result.”
According to the police spokeswoman, the suspect revealed during questioning that she had committed the crime multiple times and that she had threatened to kill the victim with a knife if she told her parents about the crimes.
“During questioning, the suspect acknowledged that he had committed the crime multiple times and that he had threatened to kill the victim with a knife if she told her parents about it,” Habib said.
He stated that while the suspect is still being held by the police, the survivor was transported right away to the Primary Health Care Centre in Bulkachuwa for medical assessment and treatment.
Habib further said that Sani-Omolori Aliyu, the state’s commissioner of police, had mandated a comprehensive probe into the matter.
“The Commissioner of Police strongly denounced the incident and reaffirmed the command’s zero tolerance policy for crimes against children and sexual abuse.
He continued, “The command further assures the public that the case will be diligently prosecuted and remains committed to protecting women and children across the state.”
