A 16-year-old girl who was gang-raped by eight men, including her guardian, in the Nawfia community in the state’s Njikoka Local administration Area has been promised justice by the Anambra State administration.
When the victim was brought to the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare’s office in Awka on Thursday, Esther Onyekesi made this statement.
With tears, Onyekesi swore to make sure that everyone responsible for the heinous conduct was prosecuted so that others would be discouraged.
When the youngster was taken to the Commissioner’s office, she was clearly upset by the extent of the trauma she had suffered at the hands of adults who were supposed to be protecting her.
The teenager is said to be pregnant as a result of the numerous sexual assaults, according to a medical report that was given to the commissioner.
After learning of the abuse, a Catholic priest from Nawfia intervened and reported the issue to the commissioner.
“The state government strongly denounced this act, and the ministry will make sure that all those responsible for the heinous act are brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to others,” stated Onyekesi.
“We are deeply outraged by the extent of the trauma the young girl suffered at the hands of adults who were supposed to be protecting her.” This is not acceptable.
Instead of exploiting women and young girls, we implore men to defend them. The ministry promised to keep a close eye on the case to make sure justice is done and reassured the victim that she would be secure.
The victim described how her guardian had been forcing himself on her every night, and other males had then joined in the sexual assaults.
She claimed that, a “Good Samaritan” helped her escape the terrible circumstances. Following that, she was taken to the commissioner’s office for protection after a few arrests were made.
The victim also revealed that the guardian’s wife was unable to stop the assault because she had a stroke.
The victim informed the commissioner that two of the eight suspects had been taken into custody by Nawfia Division police, while the other six were still at large.
It was discovered that the Nawfia Police station is now handling the matter.
