A 16-year-old kid has been detained by the Cross River State Police Command on suspicion of fatally stabbing Uwem Daniel Akpan, a 20-year-old male, in the state’s Akamkpa Local Government Area.
This was revealed in a statement provided to Calabar media on Tuesday by ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the Police Public Relations Officer.
The event happened at around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2026, according to the statement, after a miscommunication at Peters Street, Awi village in Akamkpa LGA.
According to reports, the man was taken to the Naval Reference Hospital in Calabar, where he was pronounced dead.
Members of his family later found his remains.
“The Cross River State Police Command has commenced investigation into the death of a 20-year-old male, Uwem Daniel Akpan, who was allegedly stabbed during a misunderstanding at Peters Street, Awi, Cross River, on August 31, 2026,” the statement said in part.
“A 16-year-old male suspect has been detained by police in relation to the incident. The facts surrounding the killing and the suspect’s purported involvement are being looked into by the Command.
According to the police, the matter is being processed for transmission to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar for additional investigation and possible legal action.
Eitokpah assured the public that the incident will be thoroughly examined and advised them to maintain composure and refrain from enforcing the law on their own.
“As the investigation continues and pertinent facts are established, more information will be provided,” he continued.
