In a new nocturnal attack on the village, gunmen killed two individuals and kidnaped Alhaji Abdullahi Fanka, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress in the Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State.
Alhaji Garba Buba, the APC Chairman of Rantan Ward in Bebeji Local Government Area, and Sulaiman Zunduma, another local, were assassinated by gunmen just twenty-four hours before to the most recent incident.
According to reports, the Rogo attack happened on Monday at around 11 p.m. when the gunmen broke into the neighborhood and started firing intermittently, forcing the locals to flee for their lives.
According to a resident who talked on the condition of anonymity for security reasons, the attackers killed two people who tried to stop them from kidnapping Fanka.
“They had sophisticated weapons, so the two people who were killed couldn’t stop them from whisking away the party chairman,” the resident claimed.
With suspected kidnappers and bandits carrying out a string of attacks in several villages throughout the state in a matter of days, the incident has raised concerns about the security situation in Kano.
Zunduma and Buba, the APC ward chairman, were killed when gunmen broke into the Rantan community in Bebeji LGA on Sunday nite. Since then, the Kano State Police Command has started looking into the event and working to find the offenders.
The Rantan incident happened just hours after suspected bandits kidnaped Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, a Sarkin Noman Kano, during an attack on the Chiromawa hamlet in Garun Mallam LGA on Saturday nite.
However, as locals and security personnel responded to the attack, the police were able to save the traditional title holder. During the incident, three residents were reportedly hurt.
The three events, which happened in Kano’s neighboring areas in less than 72 hours, have sparked new worries about the state’s rising kidnapping and armed attack rates.
In response to the recent attacks in Kano, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defense, declared on Monday that the Federal Government was creating a five-year defense and security plan.
As of the time this article was filed, attempts to get in touch with CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, for an update on the most recent attack were unsuccessful. Calls to his phone number went unanswered, and he had not yet responded to a WhatsApp message.
