The victims, who were reportedly brothers of the same parents, were killed instantaneously when the speeding truck crashed into the car, the motorcycle, and other cars.
A commercial driver, whose car was also severely damaged in the incident and who requested anonymity due to the delicate nature of the situation, told the reporters about his near-death experience.
“I parked my car because the store had not yet opened when I came to deliver things to my boss. I heard people yelling as I was heading to the boot to carry down the merchandise in front of the store.
I noticed the tipper clearing cars and motorcycles when I turned around. I fled for my life right away. My car was severely damaged, as you can see. The two males on the motorcycle were quickly crushed by the tipper.”
It was said that, the police had to step in to stop locals from beating the VIO officials who were thought to be responsible for the collision.
The Federal Road Safety Corps’ Ondo Sector Commander, Mr. Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed the occurrence over the phone and stated that one of the involved vehicles’ brakes failed, causing the collision.
“Brake failure caused the accident,” he stated. Two people were slain and four others were involved. Men from the Nigeria Police Force placed the deceased’s bodies in the mortuary at Ondo State Hospital.
In a similar vein, the state police command verified the fatal traffic accident, stating that initial investigations showed the tragedy happened when the tipper truck struck the Nissan car and the motorcycle from behind.
