Nigerian musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, has talked about a harrowing early experience with popularity that made him wonder if the publicity was worth it.

He claimed that the incident occurred about two months after his breakthrough songs became popular.

In an interview titled “Davido Joins The Vibe Q,” which was posted on the official VIBE Magazine YouTube channel on Thursday, Davido revealed this.

The singer claimed that although though he had only put out a few records at the time, their influence was significant enough to get him a booking in Ghana.

“I have two records and one song, but these are like the biggest records ever,” he remarked.

He claimed that for someone who, in his words, “was just a regular person last month,” the reaction he received upon arriving in Ghana was unimaginable.

It’s similar to Justin Bieber or Michael Jackson. He remarked, “So I’m like, yo, we lit.”

Davido claimed that the excitement of his growing notoriety was unrelenting throughout that time, with fresh achievements coming in every week.

“Every week is a fresh experience. I’m thrilled. I’m like, “Hey, I’m blowing up every week.” “We’re moving up the charts,” he declared.

He claimed that the thrill extended to how women started reacting to him, a change that at the time was difficult for him to comprehend.

“I’m thrilled. He remarked, “I’m like, yo, these girls actually love me.”

The singer said that his first meeting with a groupie occurred during a trip to a nightclub; he regarded the session as memorable before it became a nightmare the following morning.

“Going back to the beginning, it was like my first time in that situation. It was my first groupie.” He remarked, “And then I remember it was just a great night.”

Davido claimed that while he was still asleep, his manager knocked on his hotel room door and advised him to remain composed before delivering the news.

“Open the door,” he said. Davido remarked, “He was like, calm down.”

He claimed that when friends had questioned the woman he had spent the night with, she had snapped a photo of him dozing off and posted it.

She reportedly told folks, “Oh, I’m with Davido.” “No, you’re lying,” they say. “After that, she took the photo,” he remarked.

The fallout, according to Davido, was immediate and intimate, with calls coming in from his family as soon as the picture went viral.

“I received a call from my father. “My sisters were phoning me,” he remarked.

The singer claimed that that morning, the horror of being exposed nearly brought him to his knees.

“I would have leaped if I had seen the balcony that day.” Davido remarked, “I was going crazy.”

When asked if this kind of event was a necessary part of being famous, Davido responded that the lesson was inevitable due to his youth and love of women at the time, adding that he felt a higher power had stepped in to help him.

“I was too fond of women when I was younger. “Believe me, God had to show me at that moment,” he remarked.

He claimed that the experience gave him an early and enduring lesson about the dangers associated with celebrity status, especially for young public figures who continue to be exposed while attempting to have fun.

You’re a target since you’re young and well-known. Take their phones, even if you want to have fun,” he advised.
