After a woman died in a deadly head-on collision on Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge, a driver has been taken into custody.
The incident happened at the Ilaje inner Iyana Oworo section of the bridge, according to a statement released on Tuesday by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.
He claimed that two Toyota Sienna cars with the registration numbers LSR 809 GV and LSR 695 HM were involved in the collision.
According to Taofiq, the collision was caused by careless driving and excessive speeding. He also mentioned that LASTMA officers on regular patrol reacted quickly and put traffic control measures in place to stop similar incidents from happening again.
“A devastating head-on accident between two Toyota Sienna vehicles occurred during the terrifying episode. The impact’s intensity highlights the serious repercussions of careless driving, especially excessive speeding,” he warned.
He verified that an adult woman died in the collision, but her 30-year-old daughter, who was in the same car, lived.
Emergency personnel removed the deceased’s body.
One of the drivers fled the scene, according to Taofiq, while the other was caught by LASTMA authorities and turned over to the police.

In response to the event, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, advocated strict adherence to speed limits and cautioned drivers against driving carelessly.
“The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority is steadfast in its dedication to maintaining safe traffic flow throughout the state and saving lives. He said, “Drivers are advised to avoid excessive speeding and to always exercise caution.”
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, PUNCH Metro had previously reported that three people had died in a different collision involving a car and a motorcycle along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
