In cooperation with the Sagamu Local Government’s Environmental Health Officers, the Ogun State Waste Management Authority has detained a woman who was seen in a widely shared video discarding trash into a Sagamu drainage channel.
When it rained, the woman was observed carrying a yellow sack full of trash before throwing it into the drainage system.
She seemed unfazed when she realized she was being filmed and confronted about the crime, according to the widely shared video.
In a post on X on Tuesday, OGWAMA confirmed her detention, stating that the woman was taken into custody after the video became viral.
“The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), working with the Environmental Health Officers (EHO) of Sagamu Local Government, has arrested the woman who was caught on camera last Friday disposing of waste in a drainage channel in Sagamu,” the organization said.
OGWAMA advised locals to stop disposing of rubbish carelessly and to use waste collection services that have been approved by the organization.
It went on, “A cleaner Ogun State is a shared responsibility.”
