The contentious winning goal by Erling Haaland against Manchester United was made possible by a VAR blunder, which Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca called “part of football.”
At Old Trafford on Sunday, City defeated United 1-0. Haaland’s goal sparked discussion about the decision to not reverse the attempt after a VAR review.
However, Maresca stated that the controversy shouldn’t overshadow his team’s overall performance during a news conference on Wednesday prior to City’s Carabao Cup match against Norwich on Thursday.
The City manager stated, “It’s pretty bad to concentrate on that one episode after the performance we produced.”
Although he admitted the VAR error, he maintained that these kinds of situations were a normal part of the game.
Maresca stated, “The VAR error is part of football.”
Maresca also brought up a previous contentious ruling involving City at Old Trafford, stating that the team was still awaiting an apology following the allowance of Marcus Rashford’s goal in City’s 2-1 loss to United in January 2023.
The manager stated that he would prefer to concentrate on City’s performance and the three points they won in the derby.
Maresca, meanwhile, announced that City will switch up their starting lineup for their match against Norwich on Thursday.
He claimed that the match will provide certain players with a chance to strengthen their form and increase their level of fitness before a challenging time combining both the Champions League and the Premier League.
