A fire broke out on thursday night, along Murtala Mohammed Way in Kano State’s Fagge Local Government Area, destroying a number of buildings, including stores and offices.

It was reported that the incident, which happened close to First City Monument Bank, began in a salvage yard known as the Takumbo Market before spreading to nearby buildings.

This was said in a statement released on Friday by ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the Kano State Fire Service’s public relations officer.

The statement states that at around 10:54 p.m., one of the Fire Service’s employees, HFS Ibrahim Sabo, made a distress call to report the occurrence.

In order to contain the fire, firefighters from the Service Headquarters and other metropolitan fire stations were sent to the area right away.

According to the statement, when firemen arrived, they saw a 300 by 200-foot business area and a one-story building completely destroyed by flames.

According to preliminary investigations, the fire started at the salvage yard, where a significant amount of property and goods were destroyed before the flames spread to neighboring buildings.

Two offices, two parlors, two restrooms, and a kitchen were all destroyed in the Kanawa Building’s upper floor fire.

Additionally, it caused damage to two stores on TUSRAYS Nigeria Limited’s ground level.

An electrical spark was the cause of the incident, according to the Fire Service.

Alhaji Sani Anas, the director of the Kano State Fire Service, advised locals and company owners to follow safety precautions to avoid fire catastrophes.

“The public should take all appropriate safety measures to stop fires from starting. Safety precautions should be closely followed and electrical installations should be properly maintained,” he stated.

In order to allow emergency personnel to act before the situation worsens, Anas also urged locals to report fire events as soon as possible to the closest fire station.

Every time a fire breaks out, we ask the public to notify the Fire Service right away. He continued, “Early reporting helps minimize damage and save lives and property.”
