Peter Obi, the Nigerian Democratic Party’s 2027 presidential contender, has stated that he is willing to die for Nigeria since true leadership necessitates making the ultimate sacrifice in the face of the nation’s deteriorating security situation.
In a recent Black Box interview with journalist Rufai Oseni on Nevon HQ, which was released on Tuesday, the former governor of Anambra State spoke.
He was questioned on how he would respond as Commander-in-Chief to the murder of senior military officers, including generals, the beheading of teachers, and the rescue of abducted pupils being kept in the woods.
Obi emphasized the importance of dedication and clear leadership, but he did not provide precise operational strategies.
“I have battled crime in Anambra. Everyone’s difficulty is solved by commitment, he stated.
He described how infamous kidnappers were driven from the state while he was governor of Anambra.
Obi cited an interview in which a well-known kidnapper, Vance, acknowledged that illegal activities were no longer feasible under his leadership.
One government. Either they are in command or I am. There can only be one person in command.
We declare war. You have to be prepared to die if you want to be a leader. Go home if you’re not willing to die,” the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender continued.
Obi said, “Yes,” when asked directly if he was prepared to die for Nigeria.
“Tomorrow,” he continued. I will return if there is a conflict while I’m abroad. I’m from Nigeria. God made me a Nigerian, thus I’ve never needed a passport from any other nation. And I’m prepared to pass away here.
The comments are made in the midst of ongoing banditry, ransom kidnappings, and attacks on security officers and schools in several parts of Nigeria.
Forty teachers and kids were kidnapped in Oyo State’s Orire Local Government Area in May.
A instructor was slain in the assault, another was beheaded while being held captive, and others have not yet been set free.
