Two suspected members of an armed robbery ring were apprehended by personnel of the Ogun State Police Command’s Anti-Robbery Team, who also found three locally manufactured handguns and eighteen live rounds on them.
During a follow-up investigation into the recovery of a stolen red Toyota Matrix connected to an armed robbery event in April 2026, the suspects, Adeyinka Onakomaya, 46, and Olayiwola Kehinde, 48, were taken into custody.
This was revealed in a statement provided to journalists on Wednesday by DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s spokeswoman.
After the car was recovered, the Anti-Robbery Team conducted “relentless operational follow-ups and sustained tactical intelligence,” according to Babaseyi, which led to the arrests.
According to him, agents located the suspects’ hiding places in the Command area of Lagos State, Ota, Ogun State, and the Babaode area along Idiroko Road.
According to Babaseyi, “preliminary investigations revealed that the two arrested suspects, along with other members of their gang, masterminded the April robbery incident and participated in a series of armed robbery operations and violent vehicle snatchings across Ota, Iju, Babaode, and Atan areas of Ogun State.”
“Three locally made pistols and eighteen live cartridges” were found during a search that followed their detention, he continued.
The spokesperson claimed that during questioning, the suspects admitted to taking part in other armed robberies in the area and were offering information to support the current investigation.
According to Babaseyi, “efforts are being intensified to track down, identify, and arrest other fleeing members of the criminal syndicate for possible prosecution.”
Bode Ojajuni, the state commissioner of police, praised the Anti-Robbery Team’s “tenacity, operational efficiency, and commitment to follow-up investigations.”
According to Ojajuni, the command’s resolve to carry criminal investigations to a rational conclusion was proved by the seizure of the weapons and the suspects’ apprehension.
He advised locals to stay alert and notify the police via the command’s emergency channels of any suspicious individuals, movements, or activities.
