During a military operation in Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto State, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA neutralized two suspected members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group.

In separate operations around the states of Sokoto and Katsina, they also found guns and rustled livestock.

The actions were a part of continuing offensives against terrorists and bandits in the North-West, according to a statement released on Friday by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

According to Osoba, troops responded to a distress call regarding an attempt by suspected Lakurawa terrorists to burn down a Nigerian Immigration Service facility in Tangaza LGA’s Ruwa Wiri village.

According to him, the soldiers engaged the assailants in a gunfight, killing two of them while the others managed to flee because of the soldiers’ “overwhelming firepower.”

When the Lakurawa Terrorist Group terrorists attempted to set fire to a Nigerian Immigration Service facility at Ruwa Wiri Village in Tangaza Local Government Area, troops in Sokoto State quickly responded to a distress call.

According to him, “the troops made contact with the terrorists, neutralizing two terrorists in the ensuing firefight, while others fled due to overwhelming firepower.”

Later, he said, soldiers searched the area and found “two AK-47 rifles, several rounds of ammunition, and a motorcycle.”

In a different operation in Katsina State’s Jibia Local Government Area, combat patrol soldiers are said to have stopped terrorists carrying stolen livestock at the Danya Bakwai village.

The statement claims that after being attacked by the troops, the terrorists left the animals.

“Troops deployed in Jibia LGA of Katsina State, while on fighting patrol, encountered terrorists moving with herds of rustled livestock at Danya Bakwai Settlement,” Osoba said.

“The terrorists were forced to abandon 62 rustled livestock after the troops engaged them.”

At the palace of the Daddara District Head in Jibia, the recovered animals were subsequently given to their owners.

The military spokeswoman reiterated Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s dedication to addressing regional insecurity.

He urged locals to keep giving security forces reliable intelligence, saying, “Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to eradicating terrorism and banditry in the region.”

In response to ongoing attacks on villages, security facilities, and instances of livestock rustling connected to bandits and the Lakurawa terrorist group, the military has stepped up operations against armed groups throughout the North-West.

In order to reduce instability and dismantle criminal networks operating in the area, troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have conducted coordinated offensives in the states of Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, and Kebbi in recent months.
