Kefas Ropshik, a candidate for governor of Plateau State, was granted permission by the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday to run in the party’s primary for governor in advance of the general elections in 2027.
The screening process took place at the PDP national secretariat in Wadata Plaza, Abuja, as the major opposition party steps up its nationwide preparations for the upcoming election cycle.
Ropshik is running for the party’s ticket to run against Caleb Mutfwang, the current governor of Plateau State, who is anticipated to run for reelection.
Following the exercise, the PDP leader reiterated his dedication to what he called a “people-driven agenda for Plateau State” and considered the screening a significant step toward his goal of becoming governor.
“Earlier today, I was at the PDP Secretariat in Wadata Plaza for my screening exercise, which I will describe as another significant stride in my noble journey to serve the good people of Plateau State as their governor,” he said.
Additionally, Ropshik stated that he was confident in his state vision and insisted that it remained centered on inclusive governance and development.
“For my motto #PlateauFirst, the vision is clear, the resolve is unwavering, and the mission continues,” Ropshik continued.
With the approval, the candidate will now formally run in the PDP governorship primary, where delegates will choose the party’s nominee for the state’s 2027 election.
Only three days have passed since Ropshik turned in his statement of interest and nomination forms to the Peoples Democratic Party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
His arrival at the PDP secretariat, followed by a sizable group of friends and political acquaintances, garnered notice due to his all-white kaftan and matching headgear, indicating the increasing momentum surrounding his campaign.
