Following an inquiry by the British Transport Police, Obinwa Obichukwu, a Nigerian man, was sentenced to two years in prison for sexually abusing a woman twice at London’s Euston railway station.
Obichukwu, 45, of Armstrong Close, Hertfordshire, was jailed at Inner London Crown Court on July 21 after being found guilty of two charges of sexual assault in January, according to a statement released by the British Transport Police on its website on Tuesday.
A 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a 10-year stay on the UK sex offenders register were also imposed by the court in addition to the prison sentence.
Prosecutors claim that on August 20, 2023, in the evening, Obichukwu approached the victim as she was on her way to Euston station.
Before putting his arm around her shoulder and inviting her to go home with him, he allegedly asked the woman what music she was listening to.
Obichukwu allegedly continuously grabbed the woman’s hand and declared his love for her as she proceeded down Euston Road.
Later, he allegedly stopped her from entering the station and sexually attacked her there, according to the police.
Obichukwu followed the victim as she descended the escalator in the direction of the London Underground stations, where he sexually attacked her once more close to the ticket barriers.
Before reporting the incident, she finally shoved him away and fled, leaving him in the station.
Obichukwu was eventually apprehended after British Transport Police officers located him at his residence.
According to investigators, the Crown Prosecution Service authorized two counts of sexual assault against him based on the victim’s testimony and CCTV data.
Detective Constable Daniel Burke called Obichukwu “a sexual predator” who specifically targeted a lone woman in his remarks after the conviction.
