Just eight days after her late husband’s death, a 28-year-old widow named Tosin is at the center of a widely shared case involving claimed harassment, threats, and an attempt to evict her.

The Lagos State Government responded to the event, which activist Harrison Gwamnishu posted on his X Twitter on Tuesday, confirming that the suspected offender had been taken into custody.

A guy identified as Tosin’s father-in-law is seen padlocking the property’s gate in a video that the activist shared, ostensibly preventing the widow from entering the home.

Gwamnishu shared the video and added, “Standing with young widow TOSIN.” Tosin’s father-in-law is this man. Watch how he locks Tosin outside by padlocking the gate.

He owns a home of his own. They are pursuing properties without considering the two children they have left behind. Tosin is currently facing threats for going public.

He further stated that a petition would be filed with the Lagos State Police Command as they awaited action from the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.

“Our request is straightforward: In-laws relocate to your home so Tosin can grieve her deceased husband,” he said.

Gwamnishu said in a previous post that Tosin’s family moved into the deceased’s home at No. 8 Jumofak, Igbo Oluwo Estate, Koya Adeniran, Ikorodu, following his husband’s death on July 20, 2026.

He claims that the widow was told to relocate all of her personal things, together with those of her two young sons, into a single room in the house by her father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and his wife.

He added that arrangements were in place to sell the deceased’s car and that some of his possessions had already been divided among family members.

Gwamnishu stated, “This bereaved widow is now living in fear for herself and her two children.”

She is pleading with the Lagos State Government, particularly the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, to step in immediately and shield her and her kids from threats, illegal eviction, and any other actions that would deny them the inheritance of their late father.

“Just a few days after losing her husband, no widow should have to fight for justice, dignity, and shelter.”

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency responded in a statement on Tuesday, saying it called the widow as soon as it learned of the widely shared report.

The survivor claimed that after her spouse passed away, she was intimidated, physically assaulted, and threatened with death, according to the agency.

“The Agency was able to get in touch with the survivor, who said that after her husband’s recent death, she had experienced intimidation, physical attack, and threats to her life.

She also told the Agency that the Owutu Police Division had already been notified of the issue.

“The Agency started interacting with the investigative police officers working on the case as part of its intervention.

The statement stated, “Preliminary feedback from the Police confirms that the alleged perpetrator has been arrested and is currently in custody, while investigations continue.”

According to the agency, the Lagos State Government is still dedicated to protecting the widow and her children while collaborating with pertinent parties to guarantee that justice is carried out in compliance with the law.

Additionally, it encouraged people to keep using its established reporting channels to report instances of sexual and domestic abuse.
