Nigeria’s Future Eagles achieved a win and a draw in their most recent matches at the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival, triumphing over Cyprus 2-1 and concluding with a 1-1 draw against Pakistan on Monday.
The Nigerian youth rallied to overcome Cyprus in their first match, with Wisdom Oche and sub Timothy Ijach netting to ensure the turnaround win.
Cyprus opened the scoring in the 12th minute with Georgios Christodoulou, yet Nigeria equalized five minutes later when Oche struck back.
Ijach completed the comeback in the 26th minute, netting what turned out to be the decisive goal as the Future Eagles maintained their lead to secure their initial win of the tournament.
Despite creating chances for another victory, Nigeria could not capitalize on their performance against Pakistan in their last group match, ending with a 1-1 draw.
The draw prevented the Future Eagles from achieving consecutive victories as they found it difficult to replicate the offensive effectiveness that had brought them success against Cyprus.
Nigeria aimed to wrap up their group stage on a high after their comeback victory, but Pakistan posed a tough challenge, resulting in a draw between the teams.
The outcomes provided the Nigerian youth with important experience competing against global rivals as they progress in their youth development.
The FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival offers young athletes an opportunity to gain competitive experience and enhance their abilities while facing counterparts from different nations.
The Future Eagles aim to capitalize on the strengths showcased in their win against Cyprus while rectifying the weaknesses revealed in the draw with Pakistan as they move forward in their campaign.
