[Osun election] PDC asks INEC to declare Adeleke winner

One of the parties that took part in the election, the Peoples Democratic Change, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to declare the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the winner of the poll.

The PDC said there was a need for the electoral commission to comply with the provision of the constitution of the country, which, according to him, was superior to the electoral act.

In a statement issued by the Osun State Secretary of the party, Mr Adegboyega Bepo, and made available to news men in Akure on Tuesday, the PDC said the PDP had met all the requirements of the constitution in the election.

The statement read in part, “We members of the PDC in Osun State unanimously declare that the returning officer of the INEC for last Saturday election should declare the PDP candidate the winner of the election.

“We based our declaration on the fact that 353 votes ahead of the APC gave the PDP candidate the highest votes and Adeleke has also met the requirements of Section 179(2)(a)(b) of the 1999 Constitution.

“The Nigerian constitution is superior to any other law in the country and Senator Adeleke has met the requirements which state that a candidate for an election to the office of a governor of a state shall be deemed to have been duly elected where he has the highest number of votes cast at the election.

“Adeleke also has one-quarter of all the votes cast in each of the two-thirds of all the local government areas in the state.

“We also agreed that the PDP candidate should be declared the winner of the election so that the peace of the state be maintained.”
