Nineteen students, including six final-year students, have been rusticated or expelled by the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, authorities claim. The individuals are accused of committing various offenses.

According to a statement released on Monday by Kunle Akogun, the school’s director of corporate affairs, the Vice Chancellor, Wahab Egbewole (SAN), approved the expulsion or rustication of the affected students as a response to the recommendations made by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee during its 220th and 221st meetings.

According to the statement, the affected students were punished for offenses including violence, bed-space extortion in hostels, theft, misbehavior, beating up other students, and admission racketeering.

Additionally, it said that expulsion and rustication for a semester or academic session were among the sanctions for the offenses the students had committed.

Students in several academic levels, including 100, 200, 300, and 400, were affected.

The statement claims that 14 students were rusticated for a semester or the entire academic year, and five students were expelled from the university for allegedly stealing and examination malpractices.

The statement listed Amatokwu Evans from the Department of Art Education, Nwachukwu Chinedu Joshua from the Department of Biochemistry, Oshinboluro Temitope Joshua from the Department of Mathematics, Sulaimon Mayowa from the Department of Biochemistry, and Okanle Oluwatimileyin Samuel from the Department of Physiotherapy as among the expelled students.

It was determined that the students who were expelled had engaged in examination misconduct, theft, admission racketeering and extortion, including hostel bed space racketeering.

Performing Arts’ Adebayo Adeleke, History and International Studies’ Hassan Hanan Adebola, History and International Studies’ Ayodele Samuel Koseunti, History and International Studies’ Toki Opeyemi Ayomide, History and International studies, Linguistic and Nigerian Languages’ Makinde Usman Ayomide, and History and International Studies’ Onibiyo Eniola Gideon were among those rusticated.
